Fabrizio Romano has named Chelsea as a potentially interested side in Benjamin Pavard, as he would “love Premier League move”.

Pavard might soon be on the move from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. That could have been the case last summer, amid reports he wanted to play more as a central defender, along with apparent approaches from a few sides.

Now, a move away from the German side looks favourite, after the defender admitted that “maybe now” is the time to leave.

Transfer insider Romano has given the latest on Pavard’s situation. He revealed that clubs are keeping tabs, naming Chelsea in that group.

“Pavard was discussed with Chelsea last summer but was not a top priority; now it’s normal that clubs are keeping info on him as Pavard is open to leave Bayern in 2023,” he told Caught Offside.

“He’d love Premier League move I’m told; but there is still nothing serious.”

Indeed, Chelsea were one of the sides linked with him previously. The Blues’ defence has changed drastically of late, with Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen all leaving.

Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana all joined in the summer. Pavard could have been another addition for the Chelsea backline, but stayed put.

However, given he might be angling for a move away, Graham Potter’s side could come back in. Whether or not the new manager is a fan of Pavard’s remains to be seen.

It would seem strange were he not, given the quality the Bayern defender possesses. His versatility would stand him in good stead in a side that usually plays with three centre-backs, with wing-backs flanking them.

What’s more, he offers something at both ends of the pitch. His defensive qualities are clear to see, and his attacking numbers have been good during his time at Bayern: Pavard has contributed to 20 goals in 140 games.

The Frenchman has also scored two goals in 46 games for his country, including a long-range screamer which won goal of the tournament at the 2018 World Cup – a tournament France won, in which he played all but one game.

As such, he would seem to be a useful addition to any side. Given he is keen on a Premier League move, Chelsea could be the side that allows him to realise that dream.

That could well be contested by Manchester United, though, as the Red Devils reportedly made an approach for him previously.
