Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were both in Bundesliga action on Saturday.
Here’s what happened.
Scorers: Kane 14′, 44′, Guerreiro 72′, Choupo-Moting 85′; Kleindienst 67′, Beste 70′
Bayern Munich are top of the Bundesliga table after they survived a second half scare against Heidenheim, with Harry Kane scoring a brace and Raphaël Guerreiro netting his first goal for the club.
Kane gave Bayern a 14th-minute lead with his 20th goal of the season when he received a pass from Leroy Sané before spinning and firing into the top corner.
The England captain’s second goal of the day and his 17th in the Bundesliga arrived just before half-time, when he rose highest to head Sané’s corner into the net.
It wasn’t the second half stroll for the champions that the first half suggested it would be, however.
In the 67th-minute, Tim Kleindienst pulled one back for Heidenheim, before Jan-Niklas Beste fired the visitors level to stun the Allianz Arena just three minutes later.
Parity lasted just two minutes, however, with Guerreiro soon firing in his first goal for the club to put Bayern back in front.
And the scare was definitively side-stepped in the 85th-minute, when substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting nodded in fellow substitute Mathys Tel’s cross for 4-2.
Thomas Tuchel’s side go top, with Bayer Leverkusen facing Union Berlin on Sunday.
Scorers: Undav 42′, Guirassy (PEN) 83′; Füllkrug 36′
VfB Stuttgart moved three points ahead of Borussia Dortmund after a Serhou Guirassy penalty gave the hosts a comeback victory at MHPArena.
Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel went from villain to hero in the 10th minute when he brought down Deniz Undav for a penalty, only to get up and make a great save to deny Chris Führich from the spot.
Stuttgart were made to rue that miss when Dortmund took the lead. A low cross from Julian Ryerson found it all the way to the back post, where Niclas Füllkrug gratefully tapped home.
BVB were soon pegged back, however, when Jamie Leweling slipped Undav through to finish well past Kobel for the equaliser.
Kobel kept the hosts at bay with some great goalkeeping, but it was he who gave away another penalty in the second half for a foul on substitute Guirassy.
The Guinea international – on his return from injury – picked himself and scored from the spot for his 16th goal of the season.
That result leaves Stuttgart in third, and Dortmund behind them in fourth.
