With Benjamin Pavard out for the time-being with an ankle ligament injury, there was talk over whether or not Bayern Munich would find a new right-back in the summer transfer window.
Josip Stanišić, Bouna Sarr, and Niklas Süle all emerged as options to fill in for Pavard and it was the 21-year-old Stanišić that got the start against Gladbach last Friday.
Süle ended up starting at centre-back next to debutant Dayot Upemecano, while Sarr would come on for Stanišić in the 82nd minute.
Now, according to Kicker, Stanišić will continue to be the starter at right-back and will have a chance to establish himself as a first-team player, which could mean the end for Bouna Sarr.
Stanišić’s ability to perform well at right-back, left-back, centre-back, and defensive midfield is said to be the intriguing factor that could leave him in Julian Nagelsmann’s 18-man squad for the foreseeable future.
Prior to last week’s Bundesliga opener, Stanišić had only made one Bayern first-team appearance, when he went the full 90 minutes at left-back against Union Berlin in April.
