Bayern rocked by triple injury blow ahead of Kompany era

Bayern Munich continue to contend with a significant injury list as pre-season preparations get underway, with updates on long-term absentees Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, and Jamal Musiala providing a mixed picture, according to FCBInside and Bavarian Football Works.

Left-back Alphonso Davies is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament rupture sustained in March. Initial projections estimated an eight-month layoff, potentially sidelining the Canadian international until late October or early November. However, in the latest "Mia san vier" Sky podcast, reporter Torben Hoffmann noted that Davies’ rehabilitation at Säbener Straße is progressing better than anticipated: “The rehab is going excellently, so there’s hope internally that it might actually be October.” Bayern are optimistic that Davies could be fit just in time for the key phase of the autumn schedule, though his absence at the start of the Bundesliga campaign is certain.

By contrast, the outlook for Hiroki Ito remains far more uncertain. The versatile Japanese defender is facing his third stress fracture in the same metatarsal. Hoffmann cautioned that Ito is expected to require at least three to four more months away from the pitch, adding: “It was three times at the same spot, and that’s a type of injury you have to watch closely to see if he’ll be able to continue at his previous level.” Bayern are not factoring Ito into their squad plans for the remainder of the year, raising questions over the player’s medium to long-term future at the highest level.

The absence of both defenders comes at an awkward time, with manager Vincent Kompany in the midst of reshaping the squad. Compounding matters is the prolonged spell out for Jamal Musiala, who fractured his fibula during the recent FIFA Club World Cup. Bavarian Football Works confirm Musiala is expected to be sidelined for several months, intensifying the pressure on Bayern’s recruitment strategy with the new season fast approaching.

Despite speculation about possible quick fixes, the club leadership has so far stressed a measured approach in the transfer market. The injuries, however, mean that Kompany will be starting his tenure in Munich without three players who would ordinarily be mainstays in the first XI—forcing the coaching and performance staff to recalibrate both tactics and player management at a critical juncture.

Bayern’s medical department continues to monitor all three cases closely as the club plots its early-season lineups and assesses potential reinforcements. Davies’ steady progress provides some relief, but the combined impact of these injuries sets a difficult challenge for Kompany’s first months in charge.
