Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Nick Woltemade has become a focal point in the transfer discussions across the Bundesliga, with the striker’s potential move from VfB Stuttgart drawing significant attention in the German media. According to reports from Kicker and Sky Germany, Bayern are intensifying efforts to bring Woltemade to the Allianz Arena after missing out on initial targets like Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams.
Woltemade, 23, is under contract at Stuttgart until 2028 and recently saw his market value rise to €30 million after a breakthrough season under Sebastian Hoeneß. Stuttgart’s leadership, however, is not eager to let go. Club CEO Alexander Wehrle publicly stated his expectation for Woltemade to remain in Baden-Württemberg for the upcoming season. While Wehrle left a sliver of negotiation open by acknowledging that Stuttgart might consider “an extraordinary offer,” he has so far refused requests for in-person talks with Bayern, preferring to keep discussions strictly over the phone.
Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth echoed Wehrle’s stance, pointing to the long-term contract and reiterating the club’s intent to retain the striker. Internally, Stuttgart believe Woltemade will be their starting centre-forward for the new campaign, especially as they prepare for Champions League football following a strong Bundesliga finish.
Bayern’s initial €40 million offer was rejected, with Stuttgart’s valuation reportedly reaching as high as €100 million. Sources close to the negotiations describe Stuttgart’s demands as “astronomical” and confirm that Bayern are hesitant to meet such a figure. Sporting director Max Eberl has publicly warned that the club will not pay excessive fees. Despite this, Munich is understood to be preparing a second, improved offer in an effort to test Stuttgart’s resolve.
Reports from Bild and Sport1 indicate that Woltemade is open to the transfer and would welcome a move to Bavaria, even if it means overcoming some personal challenges—members of his family are known Stuttgart supporters. The player’s willingness to join Kompany’s Bayern could influence the deal, though Stuttgart’s firm contract and financial strength, boosted by Champions League qualification, leave them in a strong negotiating position.
Fan sentiment reflects the complexity of the situation. Bayern supporters are divided, with some concerned about the price for a player with just one standout season at senior level. In contrast, Stuttgart fans are eager to see the club hold firm, viewing Woltemade as central to their future ambitions.
With the transfer window open and negotiations ongoing, both clubs remain locked in a high-stakes standoff. Bayern’s early exit from the Club World Cup could provide a window for fresh discussions, but for now, no agreement appears imminent. The next few weeks will reveal whether Bayern are prepared to match Stuttgart’s demands, or if the Swabians succeed in keeping one of their most prized assets for at least another season.
