Newly-named Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has heaped praise on France international defender Benjamin Pavard (27). The 2018 World Cup winner with Les Bleus was trusted by the former Chelsea and PSG head coach to play at right-back for the first game of his tenure. Bayern outplayed Bundesliga leader and arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund 4-2 on Saturday to go top of the league.
“He is an underrated player“, Tuchel said in his post-game press conference translated by L’Équipe. “He can adapt to the highest level and he defends rigorously. He is a top team player, he immediately had my confidence and proved to me that I had been right.” The German coach is showing signs of confidence to his player, who is reportedly considering his future with the Bundesliga giants. Pavard, who prefers to play centre-back rather than right-back, is tied to a contract with Bayern Munich which is due to expire in 2024. It is therefore expected that clubs will come knocking at Bayern’s door for Pavard during the next transfer window.
