According to L’Équipe, Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt (24) rejected the chance to join Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.

PSG’s attempts to sign a centre-back lasted the entire transfer window. Having secured the arrival of Lucas Beraldo at the beginning of January, Milan Skriniar’s potentially season-ending injury forced Les Parisiens to scour the market for another defender.

A variety of profiles were considered, from Leeds United’s Diego Llorente to Lille OSC’s Leny Yoro. The latter remains a priority, and PSG are almost certain to return to the negotiating table come the summer. However, they are certain to face increased competition for the promising French forward. PSG also lodged a surprise bid to sign Bayern Munich’s de Ligt, according to RMC Sport.

According to L’ Équipe, PSG made a great effort to sign the Dutch international. However, it was ultimately de Ligt himself who rejected the move to the Parc des Princes.
