Georgia Stanway broke her New Year’s resolution during her very first game for Bayern Munich in 2023.
The England star agreed a three-year deal with Bayern before Euro 2022, leaving Manchester City for pastures new.
Stanway has been enjoying life in Germany so far, and she was particularly impressive in her side’s 3-2 victory against Benfica in the Champions League, scoring two late goals to turn the match on its head.
The 24-year-old is known for her unforgiving attitude on the pitch, which has often led to a booking or two.
This has not changed in 2023, with Stanway receiving a yellow card during Bayern Munich’s friendly encounter against Mexican side Club Tigres UANL Femenil.
Stanway revealed last month that her New Year’s resolution was to stop getting booked.
“My resolution for next year is to try and get no more yellow cards,” she shared in a video filmed by Bayern Munich in December.
After receiving a yellow card in her first match of 2023, it is clear that Stanway failed miserably at her attempt at staying out of trouble with the referee.
Her dad, Paul Stanway, tagged his daughter in a post about the hilarious moment on Twitter, along with a heartwarming message.
He wrote: “😂😂 @StanwayGeorgia. That’s what makes you who you are 👊🏼 Never change 😍#committed”.
Bayern Munich and Tigres UANL, the five-time Liga MX champions, met in a friendly match in Monterrey just days after they announced a multi-year collaboration.
The agreement aims to grow the women’s game globally, as well as utilising football as a vehicle for social development in Latin America.
Tigres UANL players and coaches will also travel to Munich every three years, to train and share experiences at the FC Bayern campus.
Bayern Munich will get back underway in the Frauen-Bundesliga on February 5th.
