With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Bayern Munich’s all-time XI.

Today we’re choosing the right-back.

Here are the nominees

3rd – Willy Sagnol

A brilliant defender, an intelligent reader of the game, a force in attack. Willy Sagnol is, rightly, a Bayern icon.

Signed from Monaco in 2000, Sagnol reached his peak in Bavaria during a nine-year spell with the German giants. His vibrant attacking displays and dogged defending made him a fan favourite as well as a first team regular.

In 254 appearances for the club, the Frenchman picked up five league titles, four DFB Pokals and the Champions League.

2nd – Johnny Hansen

The man who played right-back as Bayern established themselves as one of the biggest club on the planet.

Hansen was signed from relegated NĂŒrnberg in 1970 and didn’t look back. As if three Bundesliga titles in a row wasn’t impressive enough (1972, 1973, 1974), the Dane went on to win THREE European Cups in a row (1974, 1975, 1976), playing two of the finals and only missing the other through illness.

He also scored the first ever Bundesliga goal at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, on the final day of the 1971/72 season, to help Bayern clinch the title. A true hero.

And the winner is
 Philipp Lahm

Who else? Perhaps even the greatest player in Bayern history. Perhaps the best right-back to ever play the game anywhere for anyone. Lahm had it all.

But don’t take my word for it.

He is one of the most fantastic players I ever trained in my life and one of the most intelligent. He can play in 10 positions, no problems because he understands the game perfectly.

Often a midfielder under Guardiola, Lahm was the perfect player. A superb defender, technically secure, a player who always made the right choice.

517 Bayern appearances, 16 goals, 70 assists, club captain, eight Bundesliga titles, one Champions League. Wow.

Here’s how the team is looking so far
