As reported by Sky Germany, Bayern Munich “are going full throttle” in order to sign FC Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo.
Last week’s 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt only highlighted Bayern’s instability in their defence. The 24-year-old Uruguayan international would certainly help with that.
Araújo is currently under contract at Barcelona until 2026, with the club wishing to extend that even further. If Bayern is to secure the services of Araújo, they will have to submit a substantial bid to tempt Barcelona.
Last Friday, Thomas Tuchel and sports director Christoph Freund had a phone call with Araújo. Tuchel supposedly hyped the player up and indicated that the defender is a top priority during the January transfer window.
As per the report, should Araújo give the signal that he wishes to move to Bayern, the club will dig deep into their wallets and even put a club-record amount for a defender on the table. This would mean the fee would be above €80m, which Bayern paid Atlético de Madrid for Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
