Manuel Neuer is in the firing line following a controversial interview where he fired shots at Bayern Munich for the decision to dismiss goalkeeper coach Toni Tapalovic.
The Bavarians axed long-serving Tapalovic after reportedly leaking information to players.
Having shared a close bond with Tapalovic for over a decade, the decision didn’t go well with Neuer who described it as ‘brutal’.
The Bayern captain has since incurred the wrath of club officials, who are unhappy with the player for going public with his criticism.
Reports continue to circulate that the German shot-stopper could be disciplined.
According to BILD, Bayern don’t intend to take any action before the Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain, as it could affect the preparation and squad harmony.
However, Neuer is currently sidelined with an injury, with January signing Yann Sommer serving as Bayern’s number one.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer responded to Neuer’s antics, insisting that the club would take measures but ruled out the idea of terminating his contract.
CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic also weighed in with their opinions, criticising Neuer for putting his interests above the club.
The relationship between Neuer and head coach Julian Nagelsmann is believed to have deteriorated.
The young German boss is pushing to make Joshua Kimmich Bayern’s captain, much to Neuer’s disappointment.
However, Nagelsmann refused to speak about Neuer’s chances of being stripped of the captaincy, stating that he is only thinking about the veteran’s recovery.
