On matchday 32 of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich travelled to the Red Bull Arena in search of a title-clinching victory over RB Leipzig. Unfortunately, the record German Champions had to settle for a 3-3 draw. That matchday-32 result meant Bayern’s 2025 title celebrations would have to be put on hold for a while. As fate would have it, Bayern would regain the title in a manner lacking fanfare just one day later, as Bayer Leverkusen could also only muster a draw on Sunday away at Freiburg.
After a cold start with several subpar first-half performers, Die Roten trailed Leipzig 2-0 at half-time, and the title race seemingly got a lot closer. However, Vincent Kompany’s half-time talk seemed to have done the trick as Bayern stormed back in the second half to take a 3-2 lead before conceding an equalizer in the final minute of added time.
Let’s look at some interesting takeaways from a game which was a tale of two halves, but ultimately enough for Bayern Munich to be crowned 2025 Bundesliga Champions!
Saturday’s first-half display was arguably Bayern Munich’s worst opening 45-minute display of the season. Despite enjoying 64% ball possession in the half, Bayern looked rather amateurish as they never looked like cracking the Leipzig defense whilst conceding twice.
The inefficiency in attack indirectly contributed to a poor showing in midfield and turmoil in defense. The right flank of Bayern’s setup was particularly disconcerting. In attack, Michael Olise was regularly losing the ball, and in defense, Sacha Boey again at times looked lost.
Apart from complacency, it’s anybody’s guess as to why the first half was such a disaster. The first half experience was sobering to say the least.
