Hansi Flick will be the new manager of FC Barcelona, with the announcement set to be made next week. The German tactician will replace Xavi Hernandez as the head coach imminently and is already involved in transfer plans for the summer.

As has already been reported, Barça will sign Guido Rodriguez to reinforce the pivot midfield position, with Flick also giving his approval to the transfer.

Despite the impending arrival of the South American midfielder, Barcelona intend to bring in another top defensive midfielder and Flick shares the sentiment.

Flick wants Joshua Kimmich

In fact, SPORT reports that just like Xavi now, Flick too is prioritising the signing of Bayern Munich superstar Joshua Kimmich to reinforce the Barcelona midfield in the summer.

Barça had already tried to sign Kimmich last summer but the club’s financial situation did not allow for much joy.

The operation could not be completed, but Xavi had also asked for Kimmich this summer and even sounded out the player.

Now the conditions for a move are in place in the event that Barça have a salary cap as Kimmich’s contract expires in 2025 and he has not renewed, so Bayern will open the door to a sale.

Flick knows Kimmich very well from their time at Bayern when they won the Champions League. The German coach believes he can convince him to accept the Blaugrana’s offer and the club is working to make it possible to sign him for a fee of less than €40 million.

Kimmich not closing the doors on anything

Kimmich has been listening to Barça for now, but will prioritise Bayern Munich. The player wanted to have a talk with the team’s new coach and the sporting management to check his role in the team.

The German does not want to play in the full-back position and is waiting for the latest renewal offer. If the two parties do not reach an agreement, Barça will have a good chance of signing him.

Kimmich has also been approached by PSG and several Premier League clubs, but if he leaves Bayern his idea is to play for Barça. And Flick could bring him even closer, although the club must first work towards reaching the 1:1 rule.
