After winning a ninth consecutive Bundesliga title on Saturday, some of Bayern Munich’s biggest stars were full of emotion as they reflected on the achievement.
Winning the league before playing against Borussia Mönchengladbach was a “bizarre situation” according to Manuel Neuer but the squad was determined to put on a championship-worthy performance before starting their celebrations.
“We wanted to show who the true German champions were and lay down a marker at the Allianz Arena,” said the goalkeeper to club media.
“Those moments when the game is slowly coming to an end, you pick up a win or it’s already been decided – then it just tingles all over your body.”
Thomas Müller also reflected on the achievement, highlighting how winning a record tenth personal Bundesliga title is only done with plenty of hard work.
“When you start out as a little boy, you don’t think you’ll be playing in the first team at FC Bayern … to be champions nine times in a row is crazy,” he said.
“It’s a huge amount of work every year, a lot of heart and soul goes into it, but we also have a great team every year.”
“It’s not [just] about winning the title. It’s about wanting to win every game … that’s the secret of this hunger.”
