Arsenal Eye Former Man City Star As Summer Transfer Heats Up

Leroy Sane’s Arsenal Preference Hinges on Wages

Arsenal’s ambition in the transfer market is intensifying with former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane now firmly on their radar. As reported by Caught Offside, the 29-year-old Germany international is keen on returning to the Premier League and has earmarked Arsenal as his preferred destination. However, there is a significant catch. Sane wants a more lucrative contract than what the North London club have currently tabled.

The report confirms that Arsenal have submitted a written offer for Sane, who is out of contract at Bayern Munich at the end of the month. While Mikel Arteta has already spoken with the player to outline his vision, wage demands remain a stumbling block.

“He currently has four written offers. The highest is from Fenerbahce, followed by Bayern Munich contract extension, and then Galatasaray, and lastly Arsenal,” a source revealed to Caught Offside. “His preference is Arsenal but he wants up to offer more in wages.”

Champions League Draws Sane Towards Emirates

Sane’s desire to play in the Champions League remains central to his decision-making. Despite receiving richer offers from Turkey, his hesitation lies in the uncertainty of Champions League group-stage participation.

“His first wish in making his decision is Champions League football and that’s why he has not told Fenerbahce yes because they play Champions League qualifiers,” the source added.

It is that elite European stage which Arsenal can confidently offer, and that advantage could yet tip the scales in their favour. Given Sane’s experience at the highest level, his arrival could bring an added layer of maturity and tactical intelligence to Arteta’s forward line.

Arteta’s Arsenal Build Continues With Intent

Although last season ended in frustration, with Arsenal falling short in the Premier League and exiting the Champions League at the semi-final stage, Arteta’s side is clearly on the cusp. The addition of someone like Sane would reinforce the message that Arsenal are no longer content with competing, but are ready to conquer.

Julian Nagelsmann called Sane “a world-class player” back in November 2024, and it is precisely this level of player Arsenal must continue to target if they are to finally overhaul Manchester City and Liverpool.

With midfield dynamo Martin Zubimendi and striker Benjamin Sesko also on the wishlist, there’s no shortage of ambition around the Emirates this summer. Whether the board match that intent with financial muscle, however, remains the key question.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

The Sane situation is classic Emirates-era window watching. We’ve seen this script before: a high-profile name flirts with a move, Arsenal hesitate, someone else swoops in.

If Sane truly “wants to become an Arsenal player”, as Caught Offside reports, then the board’s refusal to stretch their wage structure again raises eyebrows. It’s all well and good pushing for Zubimendi or Sesko, but here’s a winger with proven Premier League pedigree, multiple league titles, and Champions League experience. If the club won’t take calculated financial risks now, then when?

There’s also the question of timing. Bayern are still trying to keep him, Fenerbahce are circling, and we know how swiftly these situations change. Waiting too long could once again see Arsenal fall victim to indecision.

Sane is 29, arguably entering his prime. If Arsenal mean business, they should meet him halfway. Otherwise, this might just be another saga in the long list of what-might-have-beens for a club desperate to turn potential into silverware.
