Bayern have very consciously stayed away from the mega-transfers that have crept into football over the past few years.

As the wealthiest, most storied club in Germany, they clearly have the resources to splash the cash in the way that some other top European sides have done.

But the reigning Bundesliga champions have only ever spent more than €40m on a player once — when they signed Corentin Tolisso from Lyon for €41.5m this past summer.

And so, it was slightly surprising to hear them strongly linked with a €100m move for Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann in recent days.

Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, is having none of it.

“We haven’t even talked about Griezmann,” he told Sky.

“We won’t be joining in the craziness — the sums involved are not worth discussing,” he stressed. “If something is sensible and suits Bayern, we will do it.”

One signing Bayern do look certain to make is that of Sandro Wagner. On the matter of the Hoffenheim striker, Salihamidzic urged patience.

“We still have time, we have decided a few things in the last few months, but the transfer window opens on Jan. 1,” he said.

Another looming issue is the futures of Bayern’s eternal wingers, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry.

Salihamidzic said of the duo: “They are two experienced and revered players. We know what we have in them and will deal with that early in the New Year.”
