Sitting first and third in the table respectively, Bayern and Freiburg both knew how important three points were.

Initially, the visitors didn’t shy away from attacking Manuel Neuer’s goal and neither did the hosts against Mark Flekken.

While attempts flew here and there, the best chances fell to Lucas Höler and Leroy Sané but each fell short for their respective sides.

The breakthrough would come at the 30-minute mark when Thomas Müller teed up Leon Goretzka for 1-0.

Coming out after the break with their unbeaten streak on the line, Freiburg tried to ramp up the pressure.

Bayern, however, were able to stifle any emerging threats and instead saw more chances fall their way.

Goretzka and Serge Gnabry saw attempts fall short and Robert Lewandowski hit off the woodwork before tapping home for 2-0 late in the game.

Freiburg, meanwhile, struggled to string together plays in the middle of the park.

Substitute Janik Haberer pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time but the visitors couldn’t pull off a comeback and will rue their dull attacking performance.

With the result, Bayern extend their lead at the top of the table while Freiburg stay third and suffer their first loss of the season.
