The bosses at Bayern Munich will be busy sorting new deals for key players during the winter break. Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich are expected to make decisions regarding their futures after Bayern play their last game of the year. Bayern want to tie down both players during the winter to avoid speculation. The same cannot be said about Leroy Sane.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern will make a decision on Sane’s future in March-April. The German winger is giving Bayern the priority, so he will not negotiate with clubs during January. Sane will be available on a free transfer in the summer if Rekordmeister decide against offering him a new deal.
One report in Germany has suggested that a new deal for Leroy Sane is looking unlikely since Bayern are concerned by the inconsistency in his performances. Sane has looked good in patches for Die Roten this season.
However, Sky Sports are reporting that Max Eberl and Bayern are still keen on extending Sane’s contract. Die Roten are not planning to sell Sane in January, but an incredible offer may change their mind. The German winger has no plans to leave Bavaria midway through the season.
Die Roten want to control the financial aspect of the potential new deal for Sane. The German winger is one of the top earners at the club. The Bavarian club offered him a bumper salary when he arrived from Manchester City in 2020. Bayern want Sane to take a big hit on his base fee and offer him a performance-based contract.
Sane’s overall numbers at Bayern are healthy, but it doesn’t paint the complete picture about his tenure in Munich. In 189 appearances across all competitions, Sane has scored 51 goals and provided 50 assists. However, he has not delivered consistent performances over an entire season. Bayern are expected to spend heavily on Florian Wirtz next summer, which will force them to trim their attacking department. Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry are facing uncertain futures in Munich, while Sane is also in the dark about a new deal. Two high-profile departures will help Bayern to balance the books.
Leroy Sane is currently going through a poor run of form. He has not scored or assisted a goal since October 30. The German winger needs to deliver good performances over the next few months to improve his chances of getting a new deal.
