Dani Olmo is one of the players that FC Barcelona have on their radars heading into the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old Spanish forward is admired at the Catalan club where he spent his formative years due to his versatility and proven quality.

Olmo’s €60 million release clause is seen as an issue, though, given the Blaugrana’s current financial situation. Beyond that, Barcelona now have to deal with growing competition in the race to sign Olmo.

Bayern Munich enter race for Olmo

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayern Munich have joined Barcelona in the race to sign Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig this summer.

The Bavarian giants are looking at a revamp in the summer starting with a new manager and Olmo has been added to the list of transfer targets for the next season.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, knows the versatile forward well from his time at RB Leipzig and is seeking a reunion.

The update from Romano adds that apart from Barcelona and Bayern Munich, two Premier League clubs are also interested in signing the Spanish international.

Release clause has an expiry date

As per recent reports, Olmo’s release clause in his contract with RB Leipzig has an expiry date.

Indeed, the €60 million buyout clause in the deal is only valid until July 15, after which Barcelona or any other interested club would have to negotiate a fee with the Bundesliga club for the forward.

Given the current economic situation, Barça will find it difficult to match that figure and with other clubs joining the race, signing Olmo will be a hard task.
