Bayern Munich have confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt is back in training ahead of their Bundesliga showdown with Stuttgart.

The Netherlands international returned to action after suffering knee ligament damage in their DFB Cup exit to Saarbrücken in November.

His appearance on the training pitches at Säbener Straße marked a first step towards a successful recovery for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

But the Bundesliga champions are set to be without goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who missed Tuesday’s Champions League win at Manchester United.

Manuel Neuer’s understudy was sidelined for the trip to Old Trafford with an ankle issue and failed to feature in Bayern’s latest training session.
