Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has expressed ‘cautious optimism’ regarding the potential contract extension of club captain Joshua Kimmich, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Despite the interest from the Spanish giants, Bayern Munich are focused on securing Kimmich’s future at the club, as his contract is set to expire at the end of this season.

Real Madrid have already faced disappointment with the recent news that key defensive target Alphonso Davies signed a new contract with Bayern.

Now, with Kimmich’s situation also unresolved, Bayern has intensified efforts to ensure that the midfielder stays at the club beyond this season.

Bayern Munich are optimistic

Talks have been ongoing for several months, with both sides working towards an agreement. Hainer has shared his thoughts on the matter, stating that Kimmich, like any top player, wants to be part of a team capable of competing for titles.

“Jo wants to have a team that can compete for titles,” Hainer told BR24.

Hainer mentioned that he remains cautiously optimistic about Kimmich extending his stay at Bayern Munich, though ultimately, the decision will rest with the player.

The president believes that Kimmich is well aware of the club’s vision and ambition, which should play a significant role in his decision-making process.

“I’m cautiously optimistic about Kimmich signing a new deal with us. In the end, he has to decide, but I think he knows what everyone has in FC Bayern. We are showing our ambition and project,” he added.

Regarding Kimmich’s potential move to Real Madrid, there has been no concrete development. Although it was reported that Kimmich had made contact with Madrid regarding his future, these claims have since been denied.

For now, all signs point to the likelihood that Kimmich, like Davies, will ultimately agree to a new deal with Bayern Munich, continuing his successful career at the club.
