Bayern Munich have made significant strides in securing the future of its key players, with long-term contract extensions for Alphonso Davies, Manuel Neuer, and Jamal Musiala.
These moves have signalled the club’s commitment to strengthening its squad for the years ahead. However, one crucial piece of the puzzle is still missing: the extension of Joshua Kimmich’s contract.
While discussions have been ongoing for several months, club president Herbert Hainer has revealed that he remains “cautiously optimistic” about the outcome.
In recent times, it has come to light that Kimmich is clear about the fact that he wants to be part of a squad capable of competing for top honours.
“Jo wants to have a team that can compete for titles,” Hainer told BR24.
Hainer shares the sentiment, emphasizing that Bayern are well-positioned for the future. While the contract extension still needs to be finalized, Hainer believes Kimmich understands the ambitions of the club and what it can offer him.

According to Hainer, Kimmich’s decision ultimately lies with him, but the president is confident that the player knows how much Bayern values him.
“I’m cautiously optimistic about Kimmich signing a new deal with us. In the end, he has to decide, but I think he knows what everyone has in FC Bayern. We are showing our ambition and project,” he added.
Kimmich has recently been linked with both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Speculation surrounding his future intensified due to the status of his current contract and his close relationship with Bayern manager Hansi Flick.
However, reports have surfaced in recent weeks indicating that Barcelona have withdrawn from the race to sign Kimmich.
One of the primary factors behind this is Kimmich’s wage demands, which reportedly exceed Barcelona’s current financial capabilities.
Furthermore, Kimmich’s sometimes fiery character has caused friction in his career, and this has raised concerns about whether he would align with Barcelona’s vision and values.
