Bayern Munich are desperate to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Florian Wirtz (21) and the Bundesliga giants are ready to spend big to lure the sought-after Germany international. According to L’Equipe, former Bayern Munich executives Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have made signing Wirtz a personal matter before retiring for good. The outlet understands that Hoeness met several times with Hans-Joachim Wirtz, Florian’s father and agent.
As for incumbent managers in Bayern Munich’s sporting chart, sporting directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, they have been tasked to trim Vincent Kompany’s squad down. Kim Min-jae, Sacha Boey, Raphaël Guerreiro, Palhinha, Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry could be sold this summer to free up funds in order to sign Wirtz.
L’Equipe understands that signing Wirtz would be the biggest outlay in the history of Bayern Munich, surpassing Harry Kane’s €100m transfer from Tottenham Hotspur two years ago. The Rekordmeister would pay their Bundesliga rivals – Bayer Leverkusen – an eye-watering €125m without bonuses to pair Wirtz with his Germany double act Jamal Musiala in Bavaria. A further €125m would pay Wirtz’s wages over a five-year-contract until 2030. A verbal agreement is reportedly already in place between Wirtz and the Bundesliga’s champions in waiting.
