Manchester City have been handed a significant boost ahead of the new season as Bayern Munich distance themselves from a possible deal for Julian Alvarez.

The Bundesliga champions are known to be in the market for a new centre-forward across the course of the coming months, and have been linked with a whole host of names from all over the top-level European game.

Alongside the likes of Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Bayern Munich are understood to have held internal conversations over the profile of Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez.

The Argentina international often plays second fiddle to star forward Erling Haaland, and the feeling around the Allianz Arena in recent weeks has been that that was a situation they could potentially look to take advantage of.

However, new information emerging from German media will allow for Manchester City supporters and the club themselves to breathe a huge sigh of relief, as the Bavarian side move further away from any formal approach.

According to the information of Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, there have been no discussions concerning Julian Alvarez over the course of the last few days, despite the conversations around the player recently.

The report highlights that Alvarez was on the shortlist under Bayern Munich’s former transfer team in the last weeks. Interestingly, those within the Allianz Arena held a feeling of ‘optimism’ around the possibility of signing the player, should they have ‘really agreed’ on him internally.

Nevertheless, all signs now point towards Julian Alvarez remaining in the Sky Blue of Manchester City into next season, when he is expected to challenge for a number of positions across the forward line and into attacking midfield.

The FIFA World Cup winner has been utilised in a number of positions under Pep Guardiola, as the Manchester City boss looks for ways to release the shackles from the former River Plate man whilst also continuing to start Erling Haaland.

Alvarez has found good fortune in the attacking midfield position in recent matches, operating in-behind Erling Haaland at times and offering a high-intensity to City’s pressing game – one aspect of their game that has often been missing this season.

While Julian Alvarez is unlikely to start in Manchester City’s mammoth finals across the next two weeks, teammate Phil Foden has been keen to emphasise the roles they could play and have played from the substitutes bench.

The Stockport-born forward explained, “There’s places up for grabs. Whoever starts we know we’ve got quality off the bench to change the game. We’ve seen that with me and Julian [Alvarez] having an impact.

“It’s been a team game all year, everyone has to train well and deserve their place.”
