Bayern Munich are at the doorstep of a crisis with several key pillars of the team in the final year of their contracts.

Real Madrid, thus, have their eyes on several Bavarian stars. They have an agreement with Alphonso Davies over a free transfer in June but they also have set the Germans’ star midfielder Joshua Kimmich as a serious target.

Just like Davies, the defensive midfielder will be free to sign for any club next summer and Real Madrid see him possess a profile they direly lack in midfield this year as revealed by SPORT.

A tough battle

Bayern Munich are working hard to renew Kimmich’s contract but the player does not see it with good eyes as he feels he was undervalued until last year and not appreciated in the squad.

Moreover, the player is not willing to lower his salary as relayed by the Spanish outlet, and Bayern Munich are desperate to bring down their wage bill. It is thus uncertain if the two parties can reach an agreement in the coming months.

Real Madrid and Barcelona lead the race to sign the 29-year-old superstar but clubs from the Premier League are also interested in his acquisition. The two La Liga giants, however, are the favourites.

Given Barcelona’s depth in the defensive midfield after the rise of Marc Casado and Marc Bernal coupled with the tricky finances, it is unlikely for the Catalans to match Kimmich’s wages and push for a transfer.

Real Madrid will thus look to make it a priority to bring the German at Santiago Bernabeu, especially in the wake of Aurelien Tchouameni’s declining quality and the lack of a creative passing force in midfield.
