Sent off: Upamecano

Jamal Musiala put Thomas Tuchel’s side ahead on the 15-minute mark with a rifled shot into the roof of the net after Manuel Riemann repelled his initial attempt.

Both sets of players were taken off the pitch after tennis balls were thrown onto the pitch as part of fan-led protests against the German Football Association.

Once play resumed, the Rekordmeister were pulled level when Takuma Asano swept home inside the penalty area from a well-worked counterattack from the hosts.

Six minutes later, Bochum took the lead on the stroke of half time through Keven Schlotterbeck meeting Kevin Stöger’s right-sided corner with a looping header.

A repeat of the earlier demonstrations in the second half prompted another temporarily halt which saw the teams returning to their respective dressing rooms.

But matters worsened for the visitors as Dayot Upamecano was sent off after elbowing Schlotterbeck in the penalty area, allowing Stöger to convert from the spot.

Harry Kane offered Bayern hopes of a late fightback with a simple finish after being teed up by Matthys Tel just three minutes from the end of normal time.

During eight minute of stoppages, the England captain spurned a golden opportunity to snatch a quick-fire leveller as he was denied by Riemann’s point-blank stop.

Tuchel’s side now sit eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen, who are aiming to claim their first-ever Meisterschale, after 22 games apiece played.
