As reported by Sky Germany, Bayern Munich could target Bayer Leverkusen right-wingback Jeremie Frimpong in the summer.
It is understood that Der Rekordmeister have been monitoring the Dutchman for a significant amount of time, but he has now become a key target. The 23-year-old has scored ten goals and collected ten assists in all competitions so far this season, which has simultaneously seen Bayern interest increase.
Nevertheless, due to Frimpong’s remarkable performances for the Werkself, his valuation has also skyrocketed. According to Sky, Bayern would have to match the Dutchman’s release clause, which is believed to be within the region of €40 million and €45 million.
However, if Bayern were to make the move for Frimpong, it would depend on who their head coach is next season. Frimpong’s attacking influence is far greater than his defensive output, meaning that he would not be utilised in a back four.
This means that if the record champions were to sign him, they would need a head coach who would be willing to play with a back three. Therefore, capturing Leverkusen’s head coach, Xabi Alonso, would likely lead to a subsequent move for Frimpong.
As previously reported, Bayern have already made contact with Alonso, but a deal is far from complete. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi is still a candidate to take over from Thomas Tuchel, but if the Italian were to be appointed, then signing Frimpong would not be a guarantee.
