Bayern Munich have been very impressed by what they’ve seen from Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger this season.

That’s according to German outlet Sport1, who report that Bayern sat up and took notice of Geiger after his excellent performance when Hoffenheim won at the Allianz Arena earlier this season.

Former Bayern boss Niko Kovac was full of praise for Geiger at the time, while Germany coach Joachim Löw was also impressed by the 21-year-old’s performance for Germany U21s against Belgium at the weekend.

“He played well,” said Löw.

“His technique is good and he has developed well, he is a player with great prospects, and we are constantly evaluating all U21 national team players.”

Former Bayern and Hoffenheim striker Sandro Wagner – now of Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda – has also gone on record with praise for the youngster.

“Dennis is a good boy, whom I initially perceived as polite and shy in the dressing room, but — in a good way — all the more cheeky on the pitch,” said Wagner, as quoted by Bavarian Football Works.

“Geiger is already extremely calm for his age, but he still has to work on his physique. I’m sure: If he reaches a similar quality to [Joshua] Kimmich’s, he can become a great player.”

Bayern are expected to continue monitoring Geiger for the rest of the season and could possibly make their move in the summer, but they must be wary of the fact Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is also understood to be an admirer.
