Bayern Munich have joined Arsenal in targeting Ajax defender Jurriën Timber, according to ESPN. On Monday evening it was confirmed that Arsenal had submitted a proposal to Ajax worth £30m. However, Ajax want £50m for the 22-year-old Netherlands international.
Arsenal appear to be slightly ahead in the race to sign Timber, talks have already begun between Ajax and the North London club. If Bayern Munich submit a more appealing offer, we could see the highly rated Dutch defender head to the Bundesliga champions.
Timber has two years remaining on his current contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena. The former Manchester United transfer target has represented his country 15 times, and he featured 34 times in the Eredivisie last season. He scored two goals and provided two assists within those games as Ajax finished third. On Monday night, David Ornstein reported that personal terms with Jurriën Timber and Arsenal are in place already. Bayern Munich are also expected to submit an offer.
