It’s a quiet January in Munich but Bayern are already making plans for the summer transfer window.

Finding a new centre-back will be a priority at the end of the season, with David Alaba and Jérôme Boateng both set to leave when their contracts expire.

Lucas Hernandez, the club’s record signing, is likely to step into Alaba’s place in the backline but Niklas Süle, who has struggled for form this season, would be the only other obvious centre-back at the club. Benjamin Pavard has only ever been used at right-back under Hansi Flick and is needed in that role.

According to SportBILD on Wednesday, Bayern will almost certainly look to trigger the €42.5m release clause in Dayot Upamecano’s contract. The RB Leipzig defender, still just 22, has also attracted interest from the Premier League.

In order to fund the move, the German champions will be looking to move a couple of players on.

The report says Corentin Tolisso, whose contract expires in 2022, is likely to be one of them. This is Tolisso’s third season with Bayern and he’s yet to truly establish himself.

Michaël Cuisance, on loan at Marseille, is another likely departure. The French club could make his move permanent for €18m.

It looks like it will be a busy summer in Bavaria.
