The Bundesliga champions were reduced to 10 men after barely five minutes when Joshua Kimmich made a last-man attempt to thwart Marvin Mehlem.
Kimmich received a straight red card for his cynical foul which will now sideline him next weekend’s Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.
His dismissal failed to dampen Bayern’s spirits as they went on to finish 8-0 winners over Darmstadt, who had two men sent off themselves later in the first half.
