Prior to kick-off, this match was supposed to be a tough test for Bayern but the visitors came out flying right from the start.

In the first half alone, Bayern put five past goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký. Up until this match, Leverkusen had only conceded eight goals.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with a back-heel flick three minutes in before Alphonso Davies teed him up again at the 30-minute mark.

After the second goal, Leverkusen’s defence struggled to contain Bayern’s press and Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry got in on the action. Julian Nagelsmann was literally left jumping for joy on the sidelines.

The hosts readjusted in the second half, maintained more midfield possession and created a few chances to test Manuel Neuer.

They pulled a goal back when Forian Wirtz teed up Patrik Schick who produced a top-class finish. The duo now has the best assist-to-goalscorer combination in Europe’s top five leagues (five goals).

As time went on, the visitors continued to lunge forward but Hrádecký and company frustrated their attack.

In the end, the first half hammering was enough to see Bayern go top of the table while Leverkusen sit third.
