Bayern Munich are interested in signing Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, according to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.
The Bavarians are looking at the young Belgian shot-stopper as a potential long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer, who is currently out following leg surgery.
Neuer’s deal expires in 2024, and his future at the Allianz Arena depends on his performance and fitness.
The Bayern legend will be fit to feature from next season, but it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his levels after a long injury lay-off.
Yann Sommer has been doing a reasonable job between the sticks for Bayern since his arrival from Borussia Monchengladbach in January, but there are doubts about whether he can retain his position when Neuer returns.
Verbruggen has been in outstanding form for Anderlecht this season, which has caught Bayern’s attention.
The 20-year-old has kept an impressive eight clean sheets in 16 games and holds a save percentage of 76 – which is among the highest in the league.
Anderlecht will ask for more than €10 million for the Belgian youngster, who is also wanted at Burnley by his compatriot Vincent Kompany.
Bayern are planning to send him on loan initially instead of integrating him into the first team.
The Bundesliga giants are also actively looking for a striker in the transfer market, with Victor Osimhen, Jonathan David, Rasmus Hojlund and Randal Kolo Muani on the wishlist.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are two points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table, and they need a victory against Mainz today to maintain the lead.
