Bayern Munich hosted Köln at the Allianz Arena on Sunday and picked up all three points after a thrilling 3-2 win.
Scorers: Modeste 60′, Uth 62′; Lewandowski 50′ Gnabry 58′, 71′
After winning the DFL Supercup, Bayern Munich were aiming to bring their success into the Bundesliga for their home opener.
However, before kicking off, the Bundesliga giants made sure to pay tribute to the late footballing legend, Gerd Müller.
Right from the first whistle Julian Nagelsmann’s men played with intent but couldn’t find a way to convert their chances – the same problem in their league opener just last week.
Leon Goretzka and Thomas Müller each had chances fall short while Niklas Süle forced a save from Köln goalkeeper Timo Horn.
After the break, the flood gates opened and both sides found their scoring touch in a thrilling second half.
Substitute Jamal Musiala teed up Robert Lewandowski for the opener before Serge Gnabry doubled the lead.
But within four minutes of going up 2-0, Köln made things 2-2 after goals from Anthony Modeste and Mark Uth.
Back on level terms, Bayern ramped up the pressure and a rocket of a second goal from Gnabry was enough to keep Bayern from blushing yet again.
In addition to the win, the Bundesliga giants extended their scoring streak to 74 games etching a new European record.
