Bayern Munich director responds to Cristiano Ronaldo transfer rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback season at Manchester United didn’t quite go according to plan and this summer, with the 37-year-old facing a season out of the Champions League for the first time since 2003, there have been increasing reports that he could leave the club after just one year.

Despite scoring 24 goals in all competitions last season, the Portuguese international’s effort were not enough to earn United a Champions League spot.

Bayern Munich, who have won the Bundesliga for the last ten years, have been paired with a possible move for Ronaldo, with Robert Lewandowski’s future remaining uncertain. Those suggestions have now been rubbished by Hasan Salihamidzic, the club’s sporting director.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a top player with an outstanding career. However, stories on potential deal with Bayern are not true,” Salihamidzic told Sky Germany, via The Metro.

“These rumours have no truth.”

SN’s verdict… Rumours surrounding Ronaldo’s exit certainly won’t be received well at Old Trafford as it’s unlikely that they have been planning for his exit.

As things stand, Ronaldo is the club’s only striker and should he attempt to force a departure, it would leave United in a world of bother as they scramble to find a replacement in a market with a striker shortage.

United’s sixth-place finish wouldn’t have down well with Ronaldo’s camp but with Erik ten Hag coming in, there is an argument to say that there’s a positive time ahead for the club.
