Bayern Munich decide against signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah

Sky Germany reports that Bayern Munich have decided against submitting a new offer for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

Leverkusen had been demanding €30m but Bayern had offered €25m plus €5m in add-ons for the 28-year-old but this was swiftly rejected by die Werkself.

Speaking at Bayern Munich’s pre-match press conference ahead of their game against Freiburg this weekend, director Max Eberl commented on the rumours:

“Leverkusen gave us a deadline three and a half weeks ago, by which we had to pay a certain amount. I told Simon Rolfes in writing, ‘Simon, thanks for the deadline and the amount, but we can’t meet either, so the negotiations are over.’ That was three and a half weeks ago.“

Eberl then added:

“Of course, I asked again now, in case we made a sale and had some money available, if we could do it then. A lot of ‘ifs’. But no, it’s not going to happen.“

It had previously been reported that a deal could only be done from Bayern’s point of view if a sale was made. Kingsley Coman was rumoured to be the player Bayern were looking to sell but has yet to be any update. On top of this, Leverkusen would have also needed to find a replacement for Tah on the final day of the window.

Tah’s contract at Bayern expires next summer and with Barcelona also showing an interest in the defender it is possible that come January 1st, Tah can then begin negotiations over a potential free transfer next summer. Whether Bayern re-enter the race for Tah closer to the end of the season is yet to be known, as the 28-year-old does not solve the issues that are current persisting the Bayern defence.
