After a terrible Champions League evening in Barcelona on Wednesday, Bayern Munich had a point to prove when they visited VfL Bochum on Sunday. The Bavarian club showed great character to bounce back from the 4-1 defeat against FC Barcelona with an emphatic performance in the 5-0 win against Bochum.
Vincent Kompany’s men had a nervy start to the game as Bochum created a couple of good chances. The visitors recovered and dictated the proceedings.
Despite a jittery start, Bayern had 73% of possession in the game and conceded only two shots on target. They also scored five goals at good intervals throughout the game, which were rewards for their dominant spells in the final third.
Courtesy of the win in Bochum, Bayern retain the top spot in the Bundesliga after matchday eight. In an improved collective performance, let's look at how every individual fared for Bayern on the pitch.
GK, Manuel Neuer- 6/10
Manuel Neuer started the game poorly as he made a wrong decision to come off the line and completely missed the ball, giving Bochum an open net to score the opener. Kim Min-jae saved Neuer’s day by clearing the ball before it got over the line. Neuer improved as the game went on, but he needs a strong run of good performances in the goal to silence the critics.
