Bayern Munich are considering a move for former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, according to SPORT.
The Spanish goalkeeper called time on his illustrious 12-year career at Old Trafford and is now available on a free transfer.
The former Atletico Madrid star is already subject to interest from Bayern, although they will have to fend off interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Nassr are reportedly eager to reunite De Gea with his ex-Man United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle East as they look to replace former loanee, Agustin Rossi.
Bayern are also firmly in the mix, but the Bundesliga champions will not make their move until Yann Sommer’s long-term future at the Allianz Arena is resolved.
Sommer is one of several names on Inter Milan’s shortlist as they begin the search for a goalkeeper to replace Andre Onana, who is reportedly edging closer to joining Man United.
In what has become somewhat of a transfer merry-go-round, Onana emerged as a primary target for Man United and is expected to replace De Gea between the sticks.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper wasted no time jumping at the chance to reunite with former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, having worked with the Dutch tactician at Ajax.
Onana’s ball-playing ability is understood to have given him the edge over other goalkeepers on Man United’s radar, and Inter are open to a sale but on their terms.
If Onana completes his transfer to Man United, Inter could move for Sommer, which would then see Bayern potentially act on their interest in De Gea.
Sommer was an instrumental figure in Bayern’s title-winning campaign last term, but his future remains up in the air with the club’s long-term number-one shot-stopper Manuel Neuer returning from a horror injury.
Neuer is expected to reclaim his spot as Bayern’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.
If they still move for De Gea this summer, it would be interesting to see what plans Thomas Tuchel has for both players.
