Bayern Munich compounded their Der Klassiker disappointment with a shock loss to Bundesliga minnows Heidenheim, despite heading into the half time break two goals up.

It means that Bayer Leverkusen can win the title as early as next weekend should beat Werder Bremen at home in their next game.

Scorers: Kane 38′, Gnabry 45′; Kleindienst 51′, 79′, Sessa 50′

Though Thomas Tuchel’s side dominated the ball in the first half, they created very little in a game that looked increasingly like it could be another frustrating afternoon for the Bundesliga champions.

However, two quickfire goals seemed to have changed that. First, Harry Kane grabbed his 32nd goal of the season, with the Englishman latching onto a Serge Gnabry flick on to fire home from 16 yards out.

Seven minutes later, it was Gnabry’s turn to find the back of the net, as the German headed home from a cross from Alphonso Davies, and put his side on course for victory heading into the interval.

Whatever Bayern could do, Heidenheim could do better though; the Bundesliga mid-table side came out firing in the second half and found the net twice in 90 seconds to level proceedings.

First, half time substitute Kevin Sessa found the net with his first effort of the game. Then, less than a minute later Tim Kleindienst extraordinarily bought them level.

They completed an astonishing turnaround against the Bavarian giants half an hour later. Slipped in with only the goalkeeper to beat, Kleindienst kept his cool to beat an onrushing Sven Ulreich and put the minnows on course for a shock win, their first ever over Bayern Munich.

Worryingly, the visitors generated almost nothing to get themselves back into the game, and as the referee bought the game to a close, the home side’s celebrations began.

The result leaves Bayern a massive 16 points off top spot with just 18 points left to play for, with Bayer Leverkusen able to lift the Bundesliga trophy as early as next weekend should they pick up a win in their game.

It was far from an ideal preparation for their Champions League quarter final against Arsenal, which takes place on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, the hosts became the first newly promoted side in Bundesliga history to beat the Bavarian giants after falling two goals behind, taking three points and a place in the history books.
