Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has inflicted a massive transfer blow on Liverpool by stating Ryan Gravenberch is not for sale.

Following a couple of impressive seasons at Ajax, the 21-year-old teamed up with the Bavarians last summer for a reported fee of €18 million.

Despite joining the perennial Bundesliga champions with high expectations, the Dutch midfielder found his first-team opportunities at a premium during his first season at the club.

Gravenberch only made three league starts for Bayern in 2022/23, leading Liverpool and several other Premier League sides to believe they could price him away from the Allianz Arena this summer.

However, Bayern chief Hainer is adamant the Dutchman is not going anywhere, vowing to increase his playing time next term.

“In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player,” he told Bild. “That’s why we brought him.

“He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.”

Gravenberch is currently away on international duty with the Netherlands’ U21 squad as they prepare for the upcoming European Championship.

Therefore, any discussions over his future will have to wait until after Erwin van de Looi’s men complete their Euro campaign, which may last until July 8, provided they reach the grand final.

But as mentioned earlier in the summer, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is eager to sort out the incomings as quickly as possible to secure enough time for new arrivals to get familiar with the squad.

The Reds are set to embark on a massive midfield overhaul after severing ties with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner, looking to reassemble a formidable crew to mount a title challenge next season.

After granting Alexis Mac Allister a dream move earlier this month, Liverpool are pushing to bring in at least two more midfielders, one of which is believed to be Gravenberch.

But they’re not alone, with Manchester United considering a fresh approach for the ex-Ajax man after missing out on his signature last summer.
