Kicker reports that the FC Bayern Munich bosses are due to meet for a special summit at the Säbener Straße today. The Bundesliga record champions are set to prioritize one last signing for the current transfer window. The FCB supervisory board will be present in order to once again go over the club’s budget.
Bayern are, rather unusually, operating with a positive transfer balance emerging from the summer window. The Bavarians also pocketed quite a bit of extra cash from their participation in this summer’s USA-hosted Club World Cup. This does not mean that the German giants are set for a splurge.
According to consistent German media reports, the club’s board wishes to ensure that Bayern do not gain a reputation as an organization that will be held at ransom for top players. Bayern have failed to acquire most all of their transfer targets this summer thanks to the perception that FCB can be fleeced.
In the board’s view, public knowledge of the fact that Bayern ultimately tendered an offer well above €60m for Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade constitutes the last straw. Bayern would not bow to Stuttgart’s demand for an offer of €75m plus and will not pursue another blockbuster signing.
Multiple Bayern bosses have publicly stated in recent days that the club wishes to acquire its final summer signing of the window on loan. This nevertheless proves difficult. As the case of Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku demonstrates, few clubs wish to conclude loan deals with Bayern.
Bayern are carrying a small squad into the start of competitive play. Lead striker Harry Kane himself expressed concern at the size of the squad just prior to the season, but naturally seemed less concerned about it after scoring a hat trick in Bayern’s 6-0 thumping of RB Leipzig in their Bundesliga opener.
