Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick named Personality of the Year | OneFootball

Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick has been named Personality of the Year by German publication Kicker.

Bayern have had a stellar 2020 under Flick since he took over and led them to a record-breaking treble-winning season which saw them win the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal.

Kicker have presented the award annually since 1990 and their commendation for this year’s award read: “Flick achieved this outstanding success firstly through his teamwork born of conviction and secondly with a grounded modesty that does a lot of good to football in the middle of his culture crisis.”

The Bayern boss is the eighth representative of the club to win the award, following Erich Ribbeck (1992), Thomas Helmer (1996), Lothar Matthäus (1999), Oliver Kahn (2001), Michael Ballack (2002), Franck Ribéry (2008, 2013), and Bastian Schweinsteiger (2010).

Assistant coach Herrman Gerland congratulated Flick on the award and said: “He is fundamentally a good person.

“He takes us all with him as an absolute team player. If he thinks it’s right then he takes advice from his colleagues and follows it if he can then achieve improvements. He doesn’t think he knows it all.”

Miroslav Klose added: “He resolutely pushes through things he values. He listens and allows himself to be brought round.

“Everybody can feel the confidence and everybody can express themselves.”

Flick was also named Coach of the Year at the Global Sports Awards which took place in Dubai over the weekend. The event also saw Robert Lewandowski win the award for Player of the Year and Bayern Munich be named as Club of the Year.

Needless to say, it’s been a pretty successful 2020 for Bayern Munich.
