Bayern Munich backing Joshua Kimmich to succeed Manuel Neuer as captain | OneFootball

Joshua Kimmich was once again pivotal for Vincent Kompany on Tuesday as Bayern Munich clinched a narrow 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The German midfielder helped Die Roten dominate the game by being a calming influence in the center of the park.

Kimmich played a lovely, chipped ball in the box to create a big chance for Jamal Musiala in the sixth minute of the game. The 29-year-old midfielder also played an important role from a set-piece in Die Roten’s solitary goal in the game.

Bayern have held positive talks with Kimmich over a new deal. Kimmich is also leaning towards staying in Munich, but there is concrete interest from FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester City. The German midfielder will be available on a free transfer if he doesn’t reach an agreement over a new deal at Bayern.

Bayern chiefs have been lauding Kimmich for his impact on the pitch this season. Max Eberl believes Kimmich will become the captain of Bayern once Manuel Neuer hangs up his boots. While talking to the media after last night’s game (via AZ), Eberl backed Kimmich to become the skipper of the first team in the near future.

Eberl has also put the ball in Kimmich’s contract regarding a new deal. Kimmich had criticized the club for lack of support during his rough patch, but it does look like both parties have resolved their differences. The next few weeks will be crucial as Bayern will look to agree a new deal with Kimmich before the start of winter transfer window. The German midfielder will be free to talk with interested clubs in January regarding a free transfer in the summer.

Muller and Neuer also back Kimmich for captaincy in future

It is not just Eberl suggesting Kimmich can become the captain of the first team at Bayern. The current skipper- Manuel Neuer, also believes Kimmich has the qualities to lead the first team. Neuer is expected to pass over the baton soon since he is 38. Kimmich has already succeeded Neuer as the captain of the German national team. Neuer retired from international football at the start of the season.

Thomas Muller also insists that Kimmich is destined to become the captain of Bayern. The experienced forward believes Kimmich sets an example on and off the pitch.

Bayern chiefs and the Bavarian faithful will hope Kimmich eventually agrees a new contract. The German midfielder will spend the remainder of his peak years in Munich after signing the new deal.
