Bayern Munich have completed the signing of South Korean international Kim Min-jae from Napoli on a five-year deal.

Off the back of an excellent campaign where he helped Napoli win the Serie A title with his impressive displays in defence, Min-jae was a transfer target for several of Europe’s elite clubs.

Manchester United were initially in the driving seat to sign him before Bayern swooped late for Min-jae having lost Lucas Hernandez to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Bundesliga champions opted to trigger the defender’s £43 million release clause which was valid only for the first 15 days in July.

Just over two years since his first taste of European football with Fenerbahce, Min-jae is looking forward to enjoying a successful spell at the Allianz Arena.

“FC Bayern is a dream for every footballer,” the 26-year-old told Bayern’s official website.

“I’m really looking forward to what’s to come in Munich – it’s a new beginning for me and I’ll continue to develop here.

“In discussions with the club, it was made clear to me from the start how interested they are in me. My first goal is to play a lot of games. In addition, I want to win as many trophies as possible.”

Min-jae is the third acquisition of what is shaping up to be a busy summer for Bayern following the earlier arrival of Raphael Guerreiro and Konrad Laimer from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig respectively.

Bayern are now expected to turn their full attention to the pursuit of Harry Kane as they bid to add a new centre-forward to their squad.

A new defensive midfielder also remains high on Thomas Tuchel’s wishlist ahead of his first full season in charge.
