Bayern Munich have made an opening bid of €60m for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, according to reports.
ESPN claim the Bundesliga champions are hopeful of securing the 20-year-old’s signature, but are likely to face stiff competition from Real Madrid, who are also understood to be strongly interested.
Leverkusen are said to value the Jamaican at closer to €100m and are hoping Bayern’s early interest will spark a bidding war among Europe’s top clubs for his services.
Madrid have reportedly engaged the services of super-agent Jorge Mendes to broker a deal for Bailey, but Bayern are confident the player would prefer to join them instead.
Bailey only moved to the BayArena from Belgian side Genk in January 2017 in a deal worth just €13.5m but he was one of the Bundesliga’s surprise packages this season, as he notched up nine goals and six assists.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for him in the past, and the man himself has admitted it would one day be “a dream” to play in the Premier League.
