Bayern host PSG in decisive final group game | OneFootball

FC Bayern Women host Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in the final game of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage with a place in the quarter-finals on the line. Kick-off at the FC Bayern Campus is at 21:00 CET. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the pivotal match.

State of play

Alexander Straus’s team returned from Roma last week with a point – but that was only half the story. Lea Schüller scored in the 87th and 96th minute as Bayern twice came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw. It was Magdalena Eriksson who got the only goal when Bayern went to Paris earlier this season. Die Frauen come into the final matchday in third place in Group C with six points, meaning a victory over PSG is a must if they are to advance to the knockout stage.

And Bayern come into Tuesday’s encounter on the back of their first competitive win of the year after beating Hoffenheim 1-0 on Saturday. Klara Bühl’s free-kick was the difference in earning all three points in the Bundesliga.

Lea Schüller scored two goals to earn a 2-2 draw at Roma last week.

Opponent: Paris Saint-Germain

The Parisians are top of Group C with nine points ahead of their trip to Munich. Jocelyn Precheur’s side won both games against Ajax, as well as their home encounter with Roma. They were beaten in Italy and at home to Bayern. It all means they are not yet assured of their place in the final eight.

PSG were runners-up in France last season and again occupy second spot this term, eight points behind Lyon with a record of 10 wins, one draw and one defeat. They claimed a comprehensive 8-1 victory over Bordeaux on Saturday.

Team news

Long-term absentees Carolin Simon (cruciate ligament), Weronika Zawistowska (cruciate ligament), Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir (kneecap), Eriksson (metatarsal) and Ana Maria Guzman (knee) are all still unavailable. Tainara is also out due to illness. New signing Linda Sembrant is not eligible in the Champions League group stage.

“Give 100 percent from the first minute”

Alexander Straus: “It’s a tough situation, but we know what to expect. We need to play better than we did in Paris if we want to win. In this group, anybody can go through and anybody can go out. That shows how tight it is. We’ve played good football and created chances, but not managed to score enough goals. We’re working on that.”

Klara Bühl: “We go into every game with the thought of wanting to win. That’s our demand and we want to carry that out tomorrow as well. We’re excited about every fan who comes, and we want to give back with a good performance on the pitch. We know tomorrow’s game will be a challenge, but we love that and will give 100 percent from the first minute.”
