FC Bayern were held to a 1-1 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. Leroy Sané put Bayern ahead after the half-hour mark but the lead was cancelled out by Randal Kolo Muani's goal midway through the second half.

The German record champions started with Yann Sommer in goal and Josip Stanišić, Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich anchored a midfield featuring Sané, Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting up front. Ryan Gravenberch, Serge Gnabry, Mathys Tel and Marcel Sabitzer took over from Sané, Coman, Choupo-Moting and Stanišić in the second half.

Leroy on target

Bayern dominated possession from the start but struggled against Eintracht's solid defence at first. A Kimmich chip found Sané, whose first touch let him down, with keeper Kevin Trapp collecting. Apart from that, chances were at a premium in the first 30 minutes.

Munich upped the ante before half-time, Trapp parrying a Kimmich shot before saving Müller's rebound. Bayern took the lead when Müller's low cross found Sané, who swept home. Upamecano headed a cross wide and Sané tested Trapp again as FCB took their advantage into half-time.

No way through

Sané blasted wide after the restart before Musiala, Choupo-Moting and Sané all saw their efforts blocked in one passage of play. Frankfurt levelled the scores on the break when Daichi Kamada teed up Kolo Muani, who fired low past Sommer on the angle.

Bayern went looking for a reply but were unable to muster up anything telling. Former FCB man Mario Götze had a shot blocked before Trapp made a routine save from Müller at the other end. Kimmich was unable to repeat his late heroics of midweek as he fired off target and Bayern were forced to settle for a point.

The result means Bayern have 37 points from 18 matches, one clear of Union Berlin. The Bavarians will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to face Mainz in the DFB Cup.
