Bayern have “an interest” in Chelsea star who Blues wanted £60m+ for in January

Chelsea are closing in on deals across the board, with Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens now looking quite likely to join the Blues, adding to Estevao Willian who is already set to join the first team squad in attack this summer.

But to fit all these signings in the Blues are going to have to move some players on, and high on that list is Frenchman Christopher Nkunku. He was never really in favour under Enzo Maresca, and only dropped further out of the picture as the season went on. As we’ve said many times now, his demeanour showed he had his bags packed from about January.

We haven’t heard much concrete about a move yet, but today Chelsea insider Ben Jacobs has dropped a little update to remind us all that the plan is still to sell him.

He says Bayern Munich, pretty much the only team to ever be linked with Nkunku, “still retain an interest” in his services, and that Nkunku is “expected to depart this summer.”

He also notes that when Bayern enquired into his availability back in January, they were quoted a price north of £60m by Chelsea.

Chelsea will have to take a loss on let down forward

Given how disappointing his season has been, we can’t see the Blues getting anything like that number. It’s basically been 2 very poor seasons in a row from Nkunku since we paid about £65m to sign him, so we can’t be expecting to get our money back.

This feels like one that could drag on all summer as we shop him around and hope to spark some interest from different areas in the former Leipzig man. Bayern will continue to be mentioned as favourites, but with so many attacking options already available to them already, there’s only so much we can expect them to push for Nkunku.
