Bayern Munich reclaimed top spot in the Bundesliga with a victory over Hertha Berlin, punishing Borussia Dortmund for their draw with Bochum on Friday.
Scorers: Gnabry 69′, Coman 79′
After Dortmund left the door open to Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table, the Bavarians found it difficult to blow it open in the early going against basement dwellers Hertha Berlin.
Thomas Tuchel’s men were all over their visitors from the capital, but appeared to leave their shooting boots at home on the day, as they were denied from a number of high quality scoring chances in the opening half.
Finally, the duck was broken thanks to a superb diving header form Serge Gnabry, who latched onto a pinpoint Joshua Kimmich cross over the top of the Hertha defence, snatching a much needed lead to Bayern with just over 20 minutes to go.
It did not take the hosts long to double their lead and all but drive the final nail into the Hertha coffin, as Kingsley Coman slotted home from close range to set the Allianz Arena alight.
Coman’s dagger would be all that Tuchel’s side would need to collect a vital three points and reclaim 1st place in the Bundesliga with just four games remaining in the campaign.
