Bayern Munich picked up a much-needed first league win in three at home to Köln by hitting five in impressive fashion.

Leon Goretzka provided two first half assists (and claimed a hat-trick late on) to put them in a comfortable position at the break, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Robert Lewandowski benefitting from his passes.

But Bayern have had problems defensively for a long time and they came to the fore again on 49 minutes as a static defence allowed Ellyes Skhiri to waltz through and clip over Manuel Neuer.

However, their joy was short-lived as Lewandowski’s second of the game put it beyond doubt after Thomas Müller teed him up before Serge Gnabry scored two late goals from close range to add a little extra gloss to the scoreline.

The result means Bayern have now re-established their five-point lead at the top.

Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Arminia Bielefeld

Borussia Dortmund turned on the style after the break against Arminia Bielefeld for a comfortable three points.

Both sides had good chances in the opening half, with Marco Reus striking the bar and Gio Reyna and Erling Haaland both going close, but the best of them fell to Bielefeld’s Sergio Córdova who missed the target with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Naturally, they paid for that miss shortly after half-time when Jadon Sancho picked out Mahmoud Dahoud on the edge of the area to rifle a low effort into the corner – the winger becoming the youngest ever Bundesliga player to reach 50 assists in the process.

The Englishman then got in on the goals himself when he calmly tucked away a penalty after Reus had been brought down in the area before Reinier came off the bench to grab his first BVB goal after being set up by Haaland.

Dortmund now close the gap on the Champions League places to three points, after Eintracht Frankfurt’s loss at Werder Bremen on Friday night.
